Some 500,000 households in the UK have stopped buying landlines each year to use mobiles, broadband, and VoIP.
Data from Statista shows that since 2014 the speed of change is accelerating as 5G adoption increases. UK households with a landline fell to 73 percent in 2020 as smartphones become a practical alternative to a landline.
Some 78 percent of all adults in the UK owned a smartphone as of 2018 as mobile telephony is becomes more affordable and convenient.
